You Brought Up The Agitation In A Wrong Style ---- Kanu Tells IPOB

Former governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, yesterday faulted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu’s style of agitation, stating that it insulted those not in alliance with his struggle for Biafra. Also yesterday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, called on Nigeria’s international partners to designate IPOB as a terrorist organisation.

Speaking while featuring on Channels Television, Kalu claimed that Kanu insulted him personally that he was writing against him but, however, urged the IPOB leader to purge himself of those needless biases, adding that the IPOB leader cannot rule a republic without the support of Yorubas, and other ethnic groups in the country.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said it was instructive for Kanu to purge himself of “needless biases and come to terms with the realities of today.”

He said: “When you set off to molest people on the road , people are afraid to say the truth I’m not afraid of death or a anybody you know me from my university days I’m still the same person, I don’t care what anybody says what matters most to me is justice being applied where it is supposed to be applied.

“If Kanu had gone ahead to obey that court order-he was asked not to appear in a public of more than 10 persons and the second in command would be the one carrying their Biafra flag nobody would touch him because he was not given any order by the court.

“If Kanu wanted to see people then they should come to his house and see him but what he did which you saw all over social media was mounting a Guard of Honour, insulting everybody.

“He insulted The Sun Newspapers, he insulted the owner of Sun Newspapers, he insulted me personally that Sun were writing against him and that they were been bought over by Hausa/Fulani people and Yoruba people.

“How can you run a republic when you are not in good terms with the Yoruba? You’re not in good terms with Hausa, the Ijaws and other tribes, so who will you be in good terms with? “The issue is that he should purge himself of those needless biases and come to terms with the realities of today.”

However, an online news portal, had reported that the APC chieftain said the north should be allowed to complete its twoterm presidency. While reacting in his article, entitled: “Thwarting Terrorism in Nigeria”, which appeared in the United States newspaper ‘Washington Times’ on October 12, Mohammed said IPOB’s actions qualified it as a terrorist organisation in most jurisdictions.

The Federal Government had on September 20 proscribed IPOB, which has been violently agitating for a separate state in the South- East. “The terror lays bare their opportunism.

They masquerade as a separatist movement, yet they endanger the very people they claim to represent. In reality, IPOB cares about IPOB and nothing more,” Mohammed said. In the same vein, Kanu’s family has alleged that the police lied when it said it recovered lethal weapons when policemen accompanied by soldiers raided their home at Afara Ukwu in Abia State on October 8.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi, had said during a press briefing in Umuahia on October 12, that during the raid, lethal weapons including petrol bombs and one double-barrel gun were recovered. While reacting to the CP’s comment, the spokesperson for the family, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, denied that the family had any gun in the house, adding that if actually there was any gun the police found, it was planted by them during the first raid.

He said: “This new CP was the same man who came to our house two days after the September 14 invasion with two Hilux vans and his Prado SUV and pulled down the car porch and destroyed the vehicles parked outside.

“This same CP hurriedly after the invasion on October 8, issued a press release telling the whole world that they discovered bombs in my house. The army on the other hand denied that there was no invasion and that they never went to my house, what a contradiction.

“A house that there has not been any person inside except our guard who we asked to look after the house, all of a sudden they invaded the house and came back to say they found a den gun, double barrel gun and petrol bomb. Who manufactured them? Who kept them there? That is the question to ask.

“The policemen came to our house and ransacked the entire compound including my mum and my father’s rooms, removing my mum’s boxes, our TV and generator sets, bags of rice and many personal belongings without knowing that we had a CCTV recording their activities in the house.

But when they got clue about the CCTV and in order to concoct whatever that they would present to the public to label our family bad, they came back and removed the CCTV from where they were hung. Meanwhile, IPOB yesterday said it had no plans to operate under a new name as a result of its proscription by the Federal Government.

IPOB spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful, in a statement, declared that the group would not change its name. Powerful alleged that the Federal Government in company with the South- East Governors’ Forum and the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, have paid some unnamed individuals to float another pro-Biafra group, supposedly to replace IPOB.

The statement reads, “We the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leadership worldwide under the command and leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the prophet our time, wish to bring to the attention of Biafrans and the world at large that IPOB has never and will never change name because of kangaroo and black market order obtained from a Federal High Court Abuja.

“It came to our knowledge that some unscrupulous individuals and groups in our society have been paid by Federal government, Igbo governors and Ohaneze Ndigbo led by Nnia Nwodo to form another group.

“There is no such organisation in place of IPOB. The fact of the matter is that the Federal Government, in collusion with Igbo governors, are using some individuals to give the impression that IPOB is no more.”
